The Minister of Health, Abderrahmane Benbouzid, reiterated today, Monday, his “absolute” rejection of the continued refusal of some hospital institutions in Algiers, in particular, to receive patients or transfer them to other hospitals, on the pretext of the lack of sufficient beds.
A statement by the ministry, following a meeting that included Benbouzid with health directors of povinces and directors of hospital institutions through videoconference, stated that the minister renewed his “absolute” rejection of the continued refusal of some hospital institutions at the level of Algiers in particular, to receive patients or transfer them to other hospitals on the pretext of lack of beds, calling on “reporting every person who engages in such behavior, regardless of their capacity, with the need to find a solution to the problem of family shortage posed by the directors of some institutions in Algiers at a time when many provinces are recording stability in this field.”
The ministry communiqué stated that the same official stressed during the meeting, which is part of a series of periodic assessment meetings related to the epidemiological situation in Algeria due to the fourth wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, that the mistakes and shortcomings recorded during the third wave of the virus outbreak should not “repeat”, especially in the adoption of a « proactive strategy” remained in anticipation of recording developments for the fourth wave of the epidemic, on top of which is the allocation of hospitals and special interests to Covid-19, while maintaining the activity of some specialties of paramount importance, such as gynecology, obstetrics, reanimation, general surgery, emergency and pediatrics. »
This meeting was also an opportunity in which Benbouzid stressed the “importance of ensuring optimal care for people infected with the Coronavirus at the hospital level, in light of the availability of all human and material capabilities, as well as medicines and preventive supplies that the central pharmacy guarantees to hospitals by providing them in the required and necessary quantities to confront this epidemic.”
On the other hand, the Minister called on health directors and directors of hospital institutions to give emergency medical services priority within the programmed rehabilitation programmes, given the importance of these services and being the front of hospitals.
Before this, the Minister of Health had listened to the latest developments related to the epidemiological situation at the level of many provinces, especially those that recorded an upward trend in the number of Covid-19 infections in recent days, whether related to the number of beds allocated for Covid-19 patients or those allocated to reanimation cases, in addition to the abundance of medical oxygen, as well as epidemic medicines.
